Sowing leadership, love for birds and connection with the territory

Since the first edition of the Salento BirdFair in 2024, a powerful seed has germinated in the heart of Quindío: the Condoritos Club of Quindío, an initiative created and funded by the fair as part of its educational and community legacy.

Thanks to the partnership with the Guardian of the Birds project and the support of EDEQ, the Mayor's Office of Salento, and the CRQ (Certified Regional Government of Quindío), the first Guardian of the Birds contest was held, awarding 10 children from Quindío with birdwatching kits (binoculars, bird guides, a vest, a T-shirt, and a cap). These children, with the Salento BirdFair and Guardian of the Birds as symbolic sponsors, formed the Club's first flight: a community of children committed to life, empathy, and the land.

Since then, and with the constant support of the Salento BirdFair, the Club has held meetings in the Boquía area, exploring the world of birds from a sensitive, creative and transformative perspective.

✨ 2025:
A new flight with purpose

In this edition of the Salento BirdFair – Ancestral Essence, the dream is strengthened. The second Guardian of the Birds contest will be launched to select 10 new children from the municipality, who will once again receive birdwatching kits and become active members of the Club.

This process was funded, carefully designed, and implemented by the Salento BirdFair under the leadership of Martayo, a rural educator, birdwatcher, and wildlife enthusiast. Her educational experience has given this process a playful approach and a deep connection with the land we inhabit.

For several months, Martayo has visited rural schools and environmental groups in the department of Quindío, promoting environmental awareness, leadership, critical observation, and a love for birds and the land. His methodology combines experiential teaching tools, guided birdwatching sessions, dynamics of emotional connection with nature, and creative expression.

New members of the Condoritos Club of Quindío will be selected from among the participants in this process through a symbolic contest celebrating the inner transformation of children.

Club Condoritos Foundation:
A Sowing for the Future.

But this year, the journey goes even further. Within the framework of the fair, the Club Condoritos Foundation will be officially launched, as a firm step toward the project's sustainability, its legal formalization, and its expansion to other communities in the country.

Because we believe that a child who learns to birdwatch also learns to care for life.

And that is, perhaps, the most important flight we can inspire.
